Roger Gorayeb still head coach of Vietnam-bound Philippine team, says LVPI

    Jul 8, 2015

ROGER Gorayeb is still the head coach of the Philippine team for the VTV International Women’s Volleyball Cup in Vietnam as the Larong Volleyball ng Pilipinas Inc. denied reports Thailand’s Anusorn ‘Tai’ Bundit will be taking over.

LVPI secretary general Ricky Palou said Gorayeb will stay on as coach and Bundit his assistant, the same positions they held both in the Southeast Asian Games in Singapore and the Asian Under-23 championships in Manila.

“I’ve spoken to coach Roger. It’s still going to be Roger for the Vietnam tournament,” said Palou. “Same coaching staff that we had in the SEA Games.”

The VTV tournament is set from July 25 to August 1 in Bac Lieu, more than a month after the Philippines participated in the SEA Games.

Palou stressed the importance of having Gorayeb and Bundit remain in charge as the national team also retained the core of the SEA Games squad that won a match and lost two in Singapore.

“We want to keep Roger and Tai together so that there will be continuity. We feel that the tournament is too close to the SEA Games. We'd rather continue with the same team in the tournament,” said Palou, adding he has asked Gorayeb to start the preparations even with Bundit not returning from Bangkok until July 12.

“Training will start immediately,” said Palou.
