ROGER Gorayeb is set to take over National University as head coach of the women’s volleyball team.
NU athletic director Junel Baculi confirmed that Gorayeb will assume the head coaching duties starting on Wednesday when the Lady Bulldogs take on University of Santo Tomas at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“Coach Roger Gorayeb will be the new head coach starting on Wednesday,” said Baculi in an SMS message.
Gorayeb led San Sebastian to several women’s volleyball title in the NCAA while also steering the Ateneo Lady Eagles to Final Four stints in the UAAP before resigning from the post at the end of the 2012-2013 season.
Baculi said Ariel De Castro, the previous head coach of the Lady Bulldogs, was offered an assistant coach role with the school but has yet to accept the position.
“He is thinking about it,” said Baculi.
The Lady Bulldogs have formed a strong team over the past few years and even won a Shakey’s V-League title over that stretch behind top star Dindin Santiago.
But NU could not get over the hump in the UAAP wars with the Lady Bulldogs losing to Ateneo in the Final Four last season in Santiago's farewell season.
