NEW National University head coach Roger Gorayeb almost didn’t make it to his first game with the team in Wednesday’s UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at the Mall of Asia Arena.
The veteran mentor arrived at the Pasay City playing venue an hour late for the scheduled game between the Lady Bulldogs and the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses as he came all the way from The Arena in San Juan for the NCAA women’s volleyball tournament, where he also calls the shots for San Sebastian.
Gorayeb’s entry at the MoA also was delayed as security at the gates prevented him from entering since he has no ID to show.
Instead, a day pass was issued to him.
“Muntikan na ako hindi umabot dito (sa laro),” Gorayeb shared to a handful of sportswriters after the game, which NU won, 25-23, 25-22, 20-25, 22-25, 15-9.
“Ayaw ako papasukin noong mga guards wala daw kasi akong ID kaya heto binigyan ako nito,” he said while showing off the the day pass given to him.
Gorayeb was tapped by NU management to call the shots for the team by mid-December, replacing Ariel dela Cruz.
