RICKY Palou will take over from Tony Boy Liao in overseeing the Alas Pilipinas programs under the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF).

In a memo issued by PNVF president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara to members of the Executive Board, Palou’s immediate appointment was disclosed in detail, including his scope of work and concurrent administrative duties.

“In line with the new structure and operational model covering the High-Performance National Teams for Indoor and Beach Volleyball, the Chairmanship of the PNVF National Team shall now be designated to Mr. Richard N. Palou,” the federation announced.

“Mr. Palou shall be in charge of the Alas Pilipinas National Team Program, covering both training and competition platforms, in correspondence with corporate sponsors and empowerment grants provided by FIVB and the Olympic Solidarity Programme.”

Concurrent leaderships for Palou

Such changes, however, won’t affect the status quo in the leadership of the Premier Volleyball League (PVL).

Liao, who held the PNVF national team chairmanship since 2021, will continue his duties as member of the PNVF Executive Board and as PVL chairman.

Meanwhile, Palou will concurrently serve as PNVF vice president and PVL president, while also taking on the head managerial role for the Alas Pilipinas programs.

Both indoor and beach volleyball national teams will be handled by Palou - a former Ateneo, PBA, and UAAP executive - under his new post.

In the leadup to a monumental 2025 for Philippine volleyball, Palou's post will be of vital importance ahead of next year's FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship on home soil in September and the 33rd Southeast Asian (SEA) Games in Thailand by December.
