ATENEO skipper Rex Intal said his last season was extra special as the Blue Eagles completed a perfect run to their third straight title.
The 22-year-old middle blocker was part of the Ateneo team that went 3-11 in Season 75 before coach Oliver Almadro turned things around to lead the Eagles to their first finals appearance in Season 76, and gold the year after.
“Mission accomplished, kasi we’ve been eyeing our third gold ever since manalo kami ng first championship. Alam namin na kaya namin magchampion hanggang Season 79,” Intal said.
Intal and Joshua Villanueva are the only graduating players this year for the Blue Eagles.
“Magandang legacy ito naiwan namin ni Joshua. Champion kami, ga-graduate kaming champions and to top it off, 16-0 pa, na-sweep namin buong season,” he added.
Intal said he is confident the Blue Eagles is still a championship-caliber team for season 80.
“I’m pretty confident kasi our bench players are intact, like meron kami nandyan si Gian Glorioso, and Chumanson Njigha, Rookie of the Year. Kayang kaya nila yan,” he said.
“Training lang, kaya nilang magimprove pa sa aming dalawa,” he added.
Now with three titles, Intal wants to take things easy before resuming his bid for his first title after college with Cignal in the Premier Volleyball League.
“Siguro celebrate muna,” Intal said. “After ng ilang days break, maglalaro na din ako sa Cignal.”
