AS rivals Ateneo and La Salle prepare to meet for the sixth straight time in the UAAP women's volleyball finals, the Lady Eagles insist it's not all about revenge.

A thrilling 25-22, 25-10, 16-25, 26-24 win over No. 4 seed Far Eastern University on Sunday put the Lady Eagles back in the best-of-three finals where they will get a chance to atone for a loss to the Lady Spikers last season.

However, Ateneo stalwarts Jho Maraguinot and Jia Morado insist payback in furthest from their minds.

“Focus namin is mag-champion, walang bawian,” said Maraguinot, who now leads the Lady Eagles offense following the departure of longtime star Alyssa Valdez.

Morado said this is a new group of players and the remnants of last year's team has long moved on after the finals defeat to La Salle.

“Hindi naman bawian ito eh,” said Morado. “At saka iba ‘yung team last year, iba ‘yung team this year. Naka-move on na kami from (last year), this year ito na ‘yung focus namin.”

La Salle holds a 3-2 edge over Ateneo in their finals match-ups, but Morado said the Lady Eagles didn't start the season looking to chase a grudge match against La Salle.

“Para sa amin, kahit sino naman ang itapat sa amin, paghahandaan namin,” said the fourth-year setter, who registered all of the team’s 51 excellent sets in the win over the Lady Tamaraws.

Morado also shrugged off the two Ateneo victories over La Salle in the eliminations, saying these won't hold any bearing on the best-of-three finals beginning on Saturday.

“Bilog ang bola. Siyempre iba ang eliminations, iba ‘yung Finals,” said Morado.
