THE FEU Lady Tamaraws stretched their win streak to three, pulling off a 25-17, 24-26, 25-23, 25-19 victory over a University of the Philippines side that lost Nicole Tiamzon early to injury on Wednesday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.
Bernadeth Pons scored 24 points and came up with 23 digs and 14 excellent receptions, while Remy Palma and Toni Basas added 11 markers apiece for FEU.
Tiamzon sprained her right ankle in the second set and UP absorbed its second straight loss. The Lady Maroons earlier bowed to Ateneo after opening the season with four successive victories.
The Lady Tamaraws scored their fourth win in six matches, forging a tie for third with the Lady Maroons. Ateneo and La Salle share the top spot with 4-1 win-loss records.
“Para sa amin sobrang saya especially sa mga coaches kasi nakikita namin na ’yung pag-push namin sa mga players lumalabas sa game,” said FEU coach Shaq de los Santos.
“Pero syempre mas kailangan namin na ipagpatuloy pa especially may last game pa kami sa Saturday and then aakyat ng second round ibang usapan na ’yun,” he added.
The Lady Tamaraws look to make it four straight wins when they take on the University of Sto. Tomas Tigresses on Saturday.
Diana Carlos scored 17 points, Isa Molde had 11 for UP, while Tiamzon had four points before hirting her ankle.
