    FAR Eastern University scored back-to-back wins for the first time this season and handed National University its second straight loss, 25-20, 25-13, 22-25 25-20, on Saturday in the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament at The Arena in San Juan.

    Benched in a crucial third of a four-set win over University of the East, Toni Basas came up with a solid game against NU, scoring 20 as the Lady Tamaraws registered their third win in five matches to tie the Lady Bulldogs at fourth spot.

    University of the Philippines leads with four wins in as many matches, followed by Ateneo and La Salle, both with 4-1 win-loss records.

    Bernadeth Pons had 18 points and Jerrili Malabanan scored 10 for FEU.

    Libero Ria Duremdes and Pons made life difficult for NU attackers with their impressive floor defense.

    Duremdes registered 31 digs and seven excellent receptions, while Pons had 20 digs and 15 excellent receptions.

    “Ito talaga ang hinahanap ko, ito ang kailangan namin and ito ang nangyayari sa practice and tuneup,” said FEU coach Shaq delos Santos.

    “Happy ako kasi nag perform ang players namin, si Basas na hinahanap ko lumabas, may gameplan and good thing nag perform,” he added.

    Jaja Santiago scored 20 points for NU, which was coming off a straight-sets loss to defending champion La Salle.

    The Lady Tamaraws also capitalized on the Lady Bulldogs’ poor reception with nine service aces, while NU had only one.
