FAR Eastern University kept alive its Final Four hopes with a 25-21, 25-21, 25-22 victory over National University on Saturday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament at the MOA Arena.
Bernadeth Pons scored 16 points and Toni Rose Basas had 14 points as the Lady Tamaraws improved their win-loss record to 7-6, tied for fifth with the Lady Bulldogs.
“Sobrang laking pamboost ng morale sa team namin ng panalo,” said FEU assistant coach Arielito Canlas.
The Lady Tamaraws are in a must-win situation against University of the Philippines on Wednesday.
“Preparation na rin namin ito against UP. Automatic ’yan, ’yung performance nila ngayon pwedeng maging inspirasyon sa game namin against UP,” he added.
La Salle (11-2) and Ateneo (10-2) have secured the top two spots in the semifinals, while University of Sto. Tomas and University of the Philippines are tied for third with 7-5 win-loss cards.
The Lady Tamaraws scored back-to-back victories, while the Lady Bulldogs absorbed two straight losses.
NU scored more on attacks, 39-36, and blocks, 6-4, but had gave away 27 extra points to the Lady Tams through errors, while FEU limited its errors to 17.
Team captain Jaja Santiago led NU with 20 points with 18 kills, while Jorelle Singh added 11 in the one hour and 25 minutes.
NU has a week to prepare before its next match against University of Sto. Tomas.
