DEFENDING women’s champion Hope-Laiya Coco Grove stakes its unbeaten record when the Ateneo Open 3 Tournament resumes Saturday at the Blue Eagle gym.
Hope battles Legacy and Manila Water one after the other in a bid to improve its spotless 2-0 record on top of Group B which it shared with Manila Water.
Backstopped by ace Ateneo playmaker Jem Ferrer, Hope got its campaign on a hot start last week after subduing shorthanded Unicorns in a duel between fancied teams, 25-21, 25-23, and then beat MC Plus, 25-15, 28-26.
Manila Water also won its first two games behind former UST star Venus Bernal, downing Legacy and MC Plus, respectively.
Playing minus key players Gretchen Ho, Fille Cainglet, and Charo Soriano, the Unicorns bounced back from its loss against Hope with a straight set win over Legacy for an even 1-1 record.
Meanwhile, University of the Philippines and ASC are showing the way in Group A with identical 2-0 slates, followed by Jose Rizal University with an even 1-1 card.
In the men’s division, Team Makati Idols is tipped to win it all after posting consecutive wins in Group C.
Bigger prizes await the champions in both the women’s and men’s division of the three-day event.
First placer will receive P15,000 cash prize, while the second and third placers will go home with P9,000 and P6,000, respectively.
