Rebisco (Republic Biscuit Corporation) has long been an avid supporter of women’s volleyball in the country.
It started with the sponsorship of the popular Ateneo Lady Eagles in the UAAP, which then extended to sponsorships in the Philippine Super Liga (PSL), and then its own commercial team, the Cool Smashers, in the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) through its ice cream brand, Creamline.
It was also the company behind the wildly successful 'Battle of the Rivals' charity game between the all stars of the Ateneo and La Salle college teams, and is now supporting the grassroots level of volleyball through the newly-launched Rebisco Volleyball League for girls 18 and under.
In the Battle of the Rivals, age-old rivalries were rekindled as championship lineups from ADMU (Ateneo de Manila University) and DLSU (De La Salle University) faced each other for a sold-out game that highlighted major audience and media love for volleyball. In the process, the one-time event raised over 3 million pesos for ADMU, DLSU, and Rebisco scholars, and provided a dream match experience for Philippine volleyball fans.
Also in 2017, the company debuted the Creamline Cool Smashers, who made a strong 3rd place showing in the Open and Reinforced conferences of the Premiere Volleyball League before sweeping their way through the finals for the 2018 Reinforced Conference crown in June.
Now, Rebisco expands its support for Philippine women’s volleyball with its sponsorship of the Philippine Women’s Volleyball Team, starting with the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia this August 2018, up to the Southeast Asian games in 2019 to be held in Pampanga, Philippines.
Featuring the best players from the Premiere Volleyball League and the Philippine Super Liga, the Philippine Women’s Volleyball Team under Rebisco is significant not just because it unites rival leagues to play as one under the flag, this team also marks the very first time our country is fielding a women’s volleyball team to the Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, in 36 years.
Led by team captain Abby Marano, she is joined by Alyssa Valdez, Jaja Santiago, Mika Reyes, Kim Fajardo, Jia Morado, Dawn Macandili, Kianna Dy, Majoy Baron, Cha Cruz, Maika Ortiz, and Dindin Manabat. The coaching staff is headed by Shaq Delos Santos with assistants Kungfu Reyes and Brian Esquibel.
Because of Rebisco’s love for the country and passion for the game, the company now gives back to the Filipinos by way of its support for the women’s national team. As the main purveyor of volleyball in the Philippines together with the LVPI, this support enables the best of the country’s volleyball players to unite as one team, and as one nation.
Rebisco has always been about family and family values.
“For us, the family is like a team, and a team needs unity to make sure it succeeds. Rebisco believes that not just the national team, but the whole country, is one family, and through unity we can bring volleyball in the country to greater heights,” said Rebisco president Jonathan C. Ng.
Ng has been an avid supporter of the sport since his college days, so it’s no wonder Rebisco has also been behind this extended support for Philippine volleyball. The national team is just another step in the country’s quest for volleyball excellence among players who, according to Mr. Ng, “will represent and bring pride and glory to the country.”
