RANRAN Abdilla showed the way as Rebisco-Philippines overcame Instituto Estetico Manila, 25-27, 25-22,25-22, 26-24, on Tuesday night in the 2019 Spikers’ Turf Reinforced Conference at the Paco Arena.
Abdilla scored 17 points, Kim Malabunga added 14 and Rex Intal chipped in 12 for the Nationals, who were without Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas for undisclosed reasons.
Rebisco had 17 kill blocks on IEM, which only had five in the match, as it already won five of their six exhibition matches.
“Medyo kalat kalat ‘yung game, [pero] ‘yung blocking namin, medyo nag-work nung kailangang kailangan namin ng puntos, ‘yung blocking ni Rex [Intal] saka Kim [Malabunga], ‘yun ang importante doon,” said national team assistant coach Dong Dela Cruz.
Joven Camaganakan led IEM with 20 points.
Meanwhile, Animo Green Spikers edged Coast Guard Dolphins, 27-29, 25-21, 25-22, 18-25, 15-8.
Vince Abrot had 19 points, Roniey Adviento scored 16 and Cris Dumago added 15 as the Green Spikers improved their win-loss record to 4-2.
The Dolphins are winless in six matches.
“Pinaka-main goal namin dito is experience, so most of our games is fifth set,” said Animo assistant coach Arnold Laniog who filled in for head coach Aaron Velez. “Sa mga previous game namin pangit sa gitna tapos biglang sa dulo, doon lang babatak.”
Esmail Kasim had 27 points, while Rudy Gatdula added 16 for Coast Guard.
Sta. Elena picked up its third win as it took down Easytrip-Raimol, 28-26, 25-21, 21-25, 25-21.
Edward Camposano had a conference-high with 25 points built on 20 attacks, four aces and a block.
Nico Almendras had 22 points as Sta. Elena evened its record to 3-3.
“Medyo bata pa kasi ‘yung team eh, ‘yung maturity medyo wala pa. Pagdating ng third set, nag-relax, so nakakuha ng isang set ‘yung Easytrip,” said Dela Cruz, who also handled coaching duties for Sta. Elena.
Mardy Galang put up 19 points for Easytrip, which remained winless in seven matches.
