LARONG Volleyball sa Pilinas, Inc. has accepted Ramil de Jesus’ resignation as head coach of the women’s national volleyball team despite the baffling circumstances leading to his exit.

Shaq delos Santos was appointed to replace de Jesus at the helm of the team set to see action in the Asian Games in Indonesia in August, the AVC Asia Cup in September, and the 2019 Southeast Asian Games in Manila.

LVPI vice-president Peter Cayco said the association had no choice but to move on and accept de Jesus' resignation, even if it was only relayed to him by an intermediary.

Cayco said he also doesn't know the reason behind de Jesus' resignation, although he felt it had something to do with the La Salle coach's inability to give the national team his full attention given his other commitments.

“Apparently, coach Ramil has his own reasons, one of them I think is yung kanyang commitment, yung schedule. Kasi he is now coaching three teams,” said LVPI vice president Peter Cayco.

De Jesus currently coaches three teams - La Salle women’s volleyball team, which he led to its 11th title in the UAAP; the La Salle Baby Spikers, basically the school’s training pool, and F2 Logistics in the Philippine Superliga.

Cayco admitted de Jesus never talked to him about resigning.

“Actually before they left for Hong Kong, I think two weeks ago, we met at a party hosted by FilOil for the La Salle team. I told him, “Coach usap tayo” tapos he smiled,” said Cayco.

“Tapos si Benson Bocboc (De Jesus’ assistant coach) na ang nag-inform sa amin na pass na muna sila. I mean, I respect his decision kung ‘yun ang decision nya, mahirap naman na pilitin natin,” he added.

“Baka nga mapabayaan niya because of his schedule. In fairness naman kay coach Ramil, nagsabi naman siya through I think Mr. (Popoy) Juico. To me personally, hindi, but it was relayed to me,” he continued.

De Jesus has already held tryouts for the national team but a new round of tryouts are being held at the Arellano University gym in Legarda, Manila, this time under delos Santos and his deputies Kungfu Reyes and Bryan Esquibel.

As complicated as the de Jesus situation was, the LVPI said they have no choice but to move on.

“We have to move on na kasi we’re short of time na eh. So we met and we decided na si coach Shaq nga so here we are now,” he said.

SPIN.ph tried to reach de Jesus, but the veteran mentor has yet to reply.
