MULTI-TITLED UAAP coach Ramil De Jesus has been invited to coach the Philippine Volleyball Federation-backed team to the 17th Asian Women’s Volleyball Championship in Thailand.

A source revealed that the De La Salle coach is the top choice of the PVF to handle the women’s team which the federation will put together for the September 13 to 21 event.

The PVF said it will hold tryouts for the team on a by-invitation basis.

De Jesus was instrumental in the De La Salle Lady Spikers’ rise to prominence in the UAAP, leading the team to eight league championships in the women’s division including the last three.

De Jesus has also handled the national team in the past, having coached the women’s volleyball team in the 2005 Southeast Asian Games which the country hosted.

De Jesus is expected to have his hands full if he accepts the post. The Philippines has been bracketed in Pool B of the 16-team tournament with 12-time champion China, Iran, and India.

Chinese Taipei, Kazakhstan, Australia, and Mongolia are in Pool A, while Pool C is composed of Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Hong Kong. Pool D, on the other hand, will have South Korea, Chinese Taipei, Sri Lanka, and Myanmar.
