DEFENDING champion La Salle looks to secure the twice-to-beat advantage as it takes on University of Sto. Tomas in a battle of streaking teams on Wednesday in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament on Wednesday at The Arena in San Juan.
The match starts at 4 p.m.
The Lady Spikers enter the match with a 9-2 win-loss record and victory will earn them a spot in the top two and a twice-to-beat advantage in the semifinals.
Ateneo holds a 10-2 card.
“‘Yung target namin mag No. 1 or 2 para makuha mo ‘yung advantage na twice-to-beat sana magtuloy tuloy,” said La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus.
The Lady Spikers have won four straight, while the Tigresses have won back-to-back and six of the last seven matches and are in third spot with a 7-4 record.
“‘Yung UST talagang every game nag-iimprove,” said De Jesus. “Siguro dapat paghandaan ng husto. Isa rin sila sa maganda ‘yung standings so kailangan talaga paghandaan.”
De Jesus will bank on last year’s Finals MVP Kim Dy, Rajoy Baron, Ernestine Tiamzon and Kim Fajardo to counter UST’s power hitters Sisi Rondina, EJ Laure and Mary Dominique Pacres.
