LA Salle coach Ramil de Jesus denied reports that he declined all media-related activities and held closed-door practice in preparation for the best-of-three finals against Ateneo in the UAAP Season 79 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Spikers scored their first win this season over rival Lady Eagles, 21-25, 29-27, 25-22, 25-20, to move closer to repeat as UAAP champs on Tuesday, and the 18-year La Salle mentor was quick to point out that the reported media silence was merely coincidental.
According to a La Salle official, permits to allow outsiders to get access to the Lady Spikers practice could not be processed as offices in Metro Manila were closed on Thursday due to the Asean Summit.
Otherwise, de Jesus said the media is welcome to attend their practices.
“Actually hindi naman kami nagko-closed door practice,” said de Jesus. “Siguro natapat lang na holiday, wala namang nangyaring closed-door practice sa team.”
The nine-time UAAP champion coach cleared that he sees no problem in media covering their practice, however, he gave no assurance that reporters can enter the school premises.
“Anytime (kayo pumunta) wala namang problema,” he said. “(Pero) hindi ko masisiguro ‘yun kasi hindi naman ako ‘yung head ng security.”
La Salle looks to finish off Ateneo and clinch back-to-back titles on Game Two this Saturday.
