FAR Eastern University will hold the jersey retirement ceremony for Rachel Anne Daquis on January 31 at the school’s main campus in Morayta, Manila.
FEU athletic director Mark Molina said the event will be split into two parts, beginning with the ceremony where her jersey No. 3 will be raised to the rafters of the school’s gym located in R. Papa Street.
The second part will be held at the 17th floor of the FEU Institute of Technology Building where Daquis is expected to give a speech.
Molina said retiring the jersey number of Daquis is a no-brainer as she remains the face of FEU volleyball after all these years.
“Rachel’s contribution to FEU is immeasurable. Seven years after she last played for the Lady Tams, she remains the face of FEU volleyball and is the best example of what a student-athlete should be,” said Molina.
Daquis, who led FEU to the Season 70 women’s volleyball crown in 2008, joins an elite group of players whose jerseys were by FEU, among them former Tamaraws basketball stars Johnny Abarrientos and Arwind Santos.
“Rachel is an inspiration to the FEU community and to a new generation of aspiring volleyball players,” said Molina.
