MONTALBAN, Rizal — Second time’s the charm for ZUS Coffee as it finally won a five-setter in the 2025 PVL on Tour at the expense of Capital1, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 15-15-11, on Sunday at Ynares Center II.
Jov Gonzaga led a 5-1 run to close out the tiebreak where she scored on five clutch attacks, enabling the Thunderbelles to enter the win column on a rainy Montalban leg finale after failing to reverse-sweep Akari in their preseason opener on Saturday.

Before the hard-earned win, ZUS Coffee was handed a pre-game red card for wearing wrong-colored uniforms.
As a result, the match began with Capital1 awarded a free point before first serve.
The Solar Spikers went on to take the first set through a 6-1 blitz from a 19-all deadlock.
Capital1 managed to erase three set points in the second frame through veterans Sydney Niegos and Trisha Genesis’ joint scoring efforts.

Back-to-back attacks from Chinnie Arroyo repulsed a brewing Capital1 comeback to draw the match level at one set each.
The same story, although the other way around, unraveled in Set 3 with the Solar Spikers taking a 24-21 lead.
Rookie duo AC Miner and Mycah Go trimmed two set points before Shola Alvarez handed Capital1 a commanding 2-1 set lead.
ZUS Coffee’s slim 11-10 edge in the fourth set ballooned into a 22-14 blowout to force sudden death for the second time in less than 24 hours.
