NOW that Chery Tiggo has officially disbanded as a club, one major question looms: what’s next for the players left without a home?
The answer, according to PVL regulations, is that players can begin negotiations with other clubs as free agents while their now defunct club begins settling its obligations to the players, some of whom are still under contract and entitled for full payment.
PVL control committee chairman Sherwin Malonzo confirmed the development to SPIN.ph on Tuesday afternoon, shortly after the Crossovers released their farewell statement signaling the end of their tenure in the league.

Disbandment of teams is not unique to sports leagues. In the case of the PVL, six other teams have previously called it quits. These are Balipure, Perlas, Sta. Lucia, Gerflor and F2 Logistics.
Many players in the disbanded teams quickly moved on. The best ones were hired immediately, others waited for some time before getting calls while some, those whose skills needed more refinement, never made it back.
When F2 Logistics, for instance, ceased club operations in late 2023, some of its best players were granted immediate free-agent status and got hired.

These include Cargo Movers and later Chery Tiggo standouts Ara Galang and Aby Maraño.
Their move to the Crossovers in January 2024 came less than three weeks after F2’s disbandment, a testament to how quickly the market can move when established talent becomes available.
For the current batch of Crossovers, the process will follow a similar course.
While players are free to negotiate with other clubs, closed-door talks between Chery Tiggo management and individual players are expected to take place to ensure clean, legal and mutually agreed-upon separations, especially for those still under contract.
These include the Crossovers’ rookies from the most recent draft, such as Baby Jyne Soreño, selected eighth overall, who has a minimum three-year rookie deal, and fellow draftees Erika Deloria, Ren Peñafiel and Reyann Cañete who were signed to one-year minimum contracts.

Each will require her existing contract settled before fully transitioning into free agency.
