ALYSSA Valdez had mixed feelings after going up against former Ateneo Lady Eagles in Creamline's pivotal first-round match against BanKo Perlas in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Open Conference.
“Inaaway nila ako,” said Valdez with a laugh after scoring 20 points in the Cool Smashers' 26-24, 25-13, 25-21 win over a Perlas side that included her ‘beshies’ Amy Ahomiro, Ella de Jesus, Gizelle Tan and Mae Tajima as well as Fab Five member Dzi Gervacio and Jem Ferrer.
Valdez had longtime teammates Jia Morado and Fille Cainglet-Cayetano by her side.
“It’s weird until now because when we’re together inside the court it’s just parang sobrang relax lang talaga because you know you got each other’s back,” said the three-time UAAP MVP, who played for the Lady Eagles from 2011 to 2015 winning two titles in Seasons 76 and 77.
Former Ateneo teammates have gone on to different paths, but Valdez is both proud and happy of the growth and success of each of them.
“We’re just really happy na we grow sa mga teams na napuntahan namin talaga. I think it was character building also yung mga decisions namin after college,” she added.
“We’re really happy for each other and we’re really supporting each other. Siyempre pag kalaban naman, laban muna. Kidding aside, we’re just really happy na nakikita namin yung growth ng isa’t isa.”
Another nostalgic game awaits Valdez, Morado and Cainglet-Cayetano when the Cool Smashers take on their former school, Ateneo-Motolite, on Sunday in a road game at the Baliuag Star Arena in Bulacan.
