Petro Gazz ace Brooke Van Sickle may not have a long and exceptional performance as a volleyball player at the University of Oregon. But her college stint was made memorable by having as classmate one of the university’s outstanding basketball players, now a WNBA star, Sabrina Ionescu.
She met Ionescu during her freshman year when the basketball player starred for the Oregon Ducks.

The Fil-American outside spiker, who donned the Nike Sabrina 1 in the Angels’ second win of the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference over PLDT, said in an interview that she was left in awe not only by how a great player was Ionescu but by the kind of person she was away from the basketball limelight.
“My freshman year of college, I went to University of Oregon, right? [It was] 2016, I believe. One of my fellow classmates was Sabrina Ionescu and just seeing how she grew as a player, you know, throughout college she was something super awesome to watch.
“Just how she would carry herself off the court, on the court. She’s the most humble person I’ve ever met. She is a true leader, she works consistently hard, even when we were in the classroom, in training, in everything she does,” said Van Sickle.
