PERPETUAL Help hopes to finally end the run of futility in the V-League as it battles some of the country’s top collegiate teams in the First Conference of Season 11 starting on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Altas’ best finish is second place in the Open Conference of Season 9 when they saw action as Cagayan Valley-UPHSD and bowed to Sandugo San Sebastian in the title series.
Perpetual Help players saw action for the Cagayan Valley team that won the Season 10 Open Conference, but that squad did not have UPHSD on the official name and it was coached by Rising Suns mentor Nes Pamilar.
Coach Sammy Acaylar steered the Lady Altas to their third straight NCAA title recently and now he hopes to guide the team way to the top of the podium in the 12-team V-League.
National University is the reigning champion, while recently-crowned UAAP champion Ateneo is also among the favorites.
The Lady Altas will again be led by Honey Tubino, the NCAA Season 89 women’s volleyball MVP, while also expected to play big roles are Coleen Bravo, Jamela Suyat and Norie Jane Diaz.
"Yes, we are prepared to face any opponent," said Acaylar.
"Expect nothing but the best from the champion of NCAA," he added. "We will bring out our good game and exemplary performance."
The veteran coach noted that while Ateneo seems to be the hottest team right now after turning back three-time UAAP champion La Salle, every other squad entered in the commercial league can win the title.
"Lahat naman ng teams (contender) but syempre pag champion ang usapan, Ateneo," he said.
Perpetual Help is in the Group B with University of Santo Tomas, San Sebastian, Davao Lady Agilas, Far Eastern University, National University.
Ateneo is in the Group A with Adamson, Arellano, College of St. Benilde, Southwestern University, and newcomer St. Louis University.
