JOVELYN Gonzaga, the youngest in the veteran-laden Philippine Army team, emerged as the Most Valuable Player of the Shakey's V-League Season 10 Open Conference.

The 21-year old Iloilo-born spiker was also hailed as the Best Attacker during the awarding ceremony held just before Game One of the Finals.

“Hindi ko po talaga inaasahan (na ako ang magiging MVP),” she said. “Overwhelming po na makuha ko 'yung award kaya nagpapasalamat po ako kay God, sa teammates ko, kasi sa break na binigay nila sa akin.”

Although they fell short of making the Finals, the 5-foot-9 Private First Class officer is still proud of her team.

“Ginawa namin ang best namin,” she said. “Satisfied kami sa ginawa naming lahat.”

Philippine Army teammates Mary Jean Balse and Rachel Ann Daquis were named Best Server and the In and Out of the Court Awardee, respectively.

Cagayan Valley’s Kannika Thipachot won the Best Scorer award, while teammate and fellow Thai reinforcement Phomia Soraya was the Best Scorer.

Melissa Gohing of Smart is the Best Digger, Meralco's Jen Reyes the Best Receiver, while Smart ace spiker Alyssa Valdez was named the Fittest Payer of the Conference.
