RIZAL Technological University moved a step ahead of Far Eastern University in the battle for third place with a 36-34, 25-19, 25-22 win on Thursday in the men’s division of Shakey’s V-League Foreign Reinforced Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The series is tied at one match apiece, but the three-set win puts the Thunder closer to the bronze medal. The Tamaraws won the series opener in four sets.
A third match will be held only if the best-of-three championship series between Systema and Instituto Estetico Manila goes the distance.
Systema leads the title series and a sweep will mean the end of the tournament, and an automatic bronze for RTU. On the other hand, a win by IEM will give FEU a new lease on life.
Jaidal Abdul Majid came up with 15 points for RTU, while Carlo Sebastian and Sabtal Abdul chipped in 13 and 11, respectively.
After a 35-minute first set encounter, RTU took control of the next two to even the series.
“No pressure naman kasi nothing to lose kami,” said RTU coach George Pascua. “Compared sa first game wala kaming communication and ngayon nag-enjoy lang kami.”
Greg Dolor had 14 for FEU, while Joshua Barrica and Jeric Gacutan each had 10 markers.
