TONI Rose Basas is primed and ready to take on a bigger role for the FEU Lady Tamaraws.
Next in line to seniors Bernadeth Pons and Remy Palma, Basas impressed on Wednesday with a stellar performance that led to a 23-25, 25-6, 25-11, 25-14 win over San Beda in the Shakey’s V-League Collegiate Conference.
The incoming third-year spiker scattered 19 points to lead FEU to the next round of the eliminations with a spotless 2-0 card, but still feels she hasn’t done enough for the team.
“Kulang pa siya (production) kasi hindi naman lahat nagagawa ko. Pinapakiramdaman ko muna laro ko,” said the soft-spoken Basas moments after the match.
But for FEU coach Shaq Delos Santos, Basas is already ripe to take the lead role.
“Happy ako kasi syempre malaki future niya,” said Delos Santos. “Sabi ko sa kanya, wag na hintayin yung (mga susunod na taon), ngayon pa lang, nakikita namin sayo na yung skills mo at lalakas ka pa."
Basas admitted feeling the pressure of meeting her coach's expectations, but added that she's ready for the challenge.
“Merong pressure. Pinipilit nila ako na mag-lead din kasi kapag nawala sila Ate Remy at Bernadeth, kami nalang matitira kaya kailangan iangat pa namin performance namin,” she said.
