ATENEO scored a vengeful win over Technological Institute of the Philippines, 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-16, to clinch the last quarterfinal berth in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Collegiate Conference at the PhilSports Arena.
The Lady Eagles battled back from a set down to avenge a shock loss to TIP in the eliminations an become the last team from Group A to advance to the round-robin quarterfinals, joining National University and San Sebastian.
Skipper Michelle Morente led the way with 21 points, anchored on 18 kills, for the Lady Eagles. and the incoming third year spiker was quick to note that they're a completely different team than the ones who lost to the Lady Engineers in their first encounter.
“Syempre sobrang happy kasi panalo eh, talagang nagpe-payoff ang mga hardwork namin sa training,” said Morente. “Masaya din na nagwork ang pag-jell namin as a team, nag-contribute lahat.”
“Kasi first game namin ‘yun as a new team, bago kaming team. It’s a young team so siguro ang pinagkaiba nagkaroon kami ng jitters noon,” she added. “Ngayon, dahil doon sa mga past few games namin, doon na-gain namin ang confidence namin as a team.”
Bea de Leon and Ana Gopico had 15 and 13 markers, respectively, for Ateneo. Setter Jia Morado choreographed the Lady Eagles’ masterful attack as she registered all of the team's 62 excellent sets in a match that took an hour and 43 minutes to finish.
The former UAAP champions own carry over a 1-1 (win-loss) card to the next round, against the 2-1 card of the Lady Bulldogs.
Alyssa Layug made 14 points for TIP, while guest player Mylene Paat added 12.
After its five-set upset over Ateneo in its conference debut, TIP ended its campaign with back-to-back losses.
