UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas eked out a 25-14, 25-17, 10-25, 23-25, 15-12 victory over Far Eastern University to secure a semifinal spot in the PVL Collegiate Conference on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
Eya Laure showed the way for the Tigresses with 18 points off 14 attacks, three aces and a block to go with 20 digs.
Imee Hernandez chipped in 12 points, while Rachelle Roldan added 10 markers and made 10 digs.
“Test of character ito, di naman tayo naghahabol ng kung ano dito, ang kailangan natin dito ay experience,” said UST coach KungFu Reyes.
“Natalo tayo sa fourth set, walang problema, mayroon pa tayong fifth set. Ang tanong ba ibibigay nyo ba? Those things na ginagawa namin sa ensayo lalabas in real game so yun na yun.”
France Ronquillo led the Lady Tams with 16 points. Czarina Carandang added 12 points and Jeanette Villareal added 10.
Gel Cayuna made 20 excellent sets, 19 digs and six markers for FEU, which dropped to 2-2 record.
UST leads Pool B followed by College of Saint Benilde at 3-1, while FEU and Arellano are tied for third place.
Meanwhile, Lyceum scored its first victory, beating Technological Institute of the Philippines winless, 25-6, 25-15, 25-14.
Joan Doguna and Alexandra Rafael scored 11 points apiece as the Lady Pirates’ moved out of the cellar with a 1-3 record.
Venice Puzon fired eight service aces and dished out 12 excellent sets, while Monica Sevilla added eight kills to beat the Lady Engineers in just 68 minutes.
TIP is winless in four matches.
