UP gets semis bid back on track, pushes Perpetual to brink of elimination

UNIVERSITY of the Philippines ended a two-match skid with a 25-23, 25-17, 27-25 victory over University of Perpetual Help on Saturday in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan.

The Fighting Maroons overcame the Altas in the 73-minute encounter to take the solo fourth place with a 3-2 win-loss record and keep their semifinals bid on track.

John Mark Millette led UP with 14 kills for 15 points and had a great defensive effort with 10 digs, while Joshua Castillo scattered six spikes, four blocks and a pair of aces for 12 points.

Matthew Gohoc contributed eight points, while Jerry San Pedro and Gian San Pascual added seven each. Playmaker Jerahmeel Baldelovar made 29 of the team’s 30 excellent sets.

UP seeks to tighten its grip of the fourth place when it battles College of Saint Benilde (2-2) on Wednesday at 1 p.m.

Joebert Almodiel scpred 13 and Ronniel Rosales added 11 for Perpetual Help, the NCAA champions who are now on the brink of elimination after sustaining their fifth loss in six outings.
