UNIVERSITY of the Philippines tries to get back on track as it takes on winless San Sebastian College on Wednesday in the Premier Volleyball League Season 2 Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan.
After falling at the hands of unbeaten University of Sto. Tomas, the Lady Maroons, in fourth with a 1-1 win-loss record, face the Lady Stags in the lone women’s match of the day at 4 p.m.
Four men’s matches are set with Adamson eyeing its fifth straight win in as many matches as it faces Far Eastern University (1-2) at 9 a.m. National University (3-0) also tries to sustain its unbeaten run at it battles UP (2-1) at 1 p.m. San Beda (1-2) takes on Arellano (0-3) at 11 a.m., while University Perpetual Help (1-3) and College of St. Benilde (1-2) play at 6 p.m.
Coach Godfrey Okumu could not hide his frustrations after the Lady Maroons failed to capitalize on their first set win over UST.
“We made a lot of errors that kept us from taking sets. We couldn't spike well,” Okumu rued. “The only thing I can say is if we can polish our mistakes, we'll have different results. It was a see-saw game, but we didn't have the finishing power.”
The Kenyan coach added that his wards led by star spiker Isa Molde, setter Ayel Estrañero and rookie Nicole Magsarile should learn how to protect their leads and momentum.
“When we are leading, we need to keep leading and avoid unforced errors. It's quite frustrating as a coach. We need to work on that,” he said. “We need to take every point seriously. It's just like a test for what's coming in the next few months. We weren't very consistent. Once we are ahead, it became typical for us to wait for our opponents to make a mistake.”
San Sebastian, led by Joyce Sta. Rita, Shannai Requierme and Mary Dapol, tries to finally score a win after three losses.
