SOME may still remember Tin Tiamzon from her La Salle days or her brief but productive stint with F2 Logistics, but the former Lady Spiker is now carving out a new chapter after once believing her volleyball story had already ended.

The 28-year-old outside hitter initially walked away from the sport in 2023 following the sudden disbandment of the Cargo Movers.

At the time, it felt like a natural conclusion to a seven-year journey that included three UAAP championships in five seasons with La Salle and two years in the pro ranks.

Already settled in British Columbia, Canada with her family, Tiamzon had moved on from competitive volleyball until a surprise call from Cignal changed everything.

Answering the Super Spikers’ invitation meant reversing her retirement and returning to the PVL after an 840-day layoff, a leap of faith for both her and the team.

Now in her fourth tournament with Cignal, Tiamzon is starting to show why the gamble was worth it.

She delivered her best scoring performance in a Super Spikers uniform in their 2026 PVL All-Filipino Conference opener, pouring in 18 points built on 10 attacks, two blocks, and a scorching six aces in a 25-17, 25-14, 25-11 sweep of Galeries Tower on Saturday.

‘Return of investment’

Tiamzon was quick to acknowledge that Cignal took just as much of a risk on her as she did on herself by coming out of retirement.

“Gusto ko pong ibalik sa coaches and management ‘yung investment and the risk na tinake nila on me coming from retirement,” she said.

“Ngayon, lumipas na ‘yung isang taon nu’ng 2025 and sobrang dami kong natutunan kaya gusto ko talaga ibalik sa team ‘yung investment nila sa’kin.”

Despite the strong start, complacency is not an option for the veteran winger, as she's learned over the last seven years under the tutelage of champion mentor Ramil de Jesus in college and beyond.

“Marami pa rin akong nakikitang kulang sa sarili ko. As a player, we always want to be better than our last performances,” she added.

“Hindi ako magiging kampante sa season na ‘to kasi talagang gusto naming makakuha ng medal and we will do our best to keep getting better and to eventually get there.”

From retirement to resurgence, Tiamzon’s second act has only just begun paying dividends for both her and Cignal.
