FAR Eastern University’s top scorer, Celine Domingo, said that she is just doing her part in leading the Lady Tamaraws in their stint the Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Collegiate Conference.
Domingo poured 18 points to lead FEU’s comeback win over University of Perpetual Help in five sets, 25-15, 15-25, 22-15, 25-14, 15-6, last Sunday at The Arena in San Juan City.
After nailing 13 attacks, four blocks, and a service ace, Domingo is now the second-best scorer in the league, averaging 17.50 points in their first four games behind scoring race leader Eli Soyud, who normed 19.75 points in Adamson’s first four games.
But the reigning Best Blocker of the UAAP insisted that she is just doing her part for the Lady Tams, who now improved with a 4-1 win-loss record at third place.
“Ginawa ko lang ‘yung part ko. ‘Yung mga kailangan kong gawin para makapagcontribute sa team, ginawa ko lahat para umangat kami at manalo,” Domingo said.
“Parang iniisip ko kasi every game gawin ‘yung part ko, parang lahat kasi kami kailangan magcontribute para manalo. ‘Yun lang ‘yung nasa isip ko hindi naman dapat na ako ng ako, dapat lahat kami,” she added.
The 5-foot-10 middle blocker of the Lady Tams admitted that she is still adjusting in leading her younger teammates as she was tasked to remain on the court in guiding the team in the third and fourth sets, where they trailed to the Lady Altas with a 1-2 set deficit before her fellow seniors rejoined her to complete the come-from-behind win.
“Nung two sets na ‘yun puro bata kasi ‘yung nasa loob sa amin puro bago so medyo nahirapan ako na since dalawa lang kami ni ate Angel (Cayuna) ‘yung nasa loob,” Domingo shared. “Medyo nahirapan kami i-lead sila. Pero nung fourth and fifth set na kami ng mga seniors na ‘yung nasa loob kaya nagtulungan kami para manalo.”
For Domingo, as a senior player of the team, she advises their rookies and newcomers to play brave in order to avoid on-court jitters.
“Siguro nandoon pa yung parang kinakabahan pa sila sa loob ng court siguro ‘yun lang ‘yung kailangan idevelop pa sa kanila,” she said. “Wag sila matakot kasi hindi lumalabas ‘yung laro nila pag natatakot sila parang kanina so more playing time siguro.”
