FARM Fresh had an early reshuffling of its setter deck after parting ways with veteran playmaker Iris Tolenada just two months into her stint with the Foxies.
Tolenada, who spent the last two years with Capital1, was signed by Farm Fresh last June ahead of the PVL on Tour.
But just as the Invitational Conference got underway, the 35-year-old setter revealed on TikTok that she was back on the market as free agent.
“I do not have a contract or a team right now in the volleyball world, but it’s alright. I am so grateful for the team that I got to play for and I was only signed for a short conference, so that was understood," the Fil-Am playmaker said.
“I would have hoped to re-sign, but that’s alright.”
The development leaves the Foxies with a vastly different look at the setter position, especially with its longtime main playmaker Alohi Robins-Hardy taking an extended break before potentially returning for what SPIN.ph learned could be a final run with the franchise.
For a moment, that appeared to leave only Louie Romero and rookie Ela Raagas, this year’s 11th overall draft pick, in their setter pool.
But Farm Fresh quietly added reinforcements by the start of the ongoing tournaments, unfurling two more familiar faces in former Akari playmakers Kamille Cal and Bea Bonafe.
Cal immediately got her chance to see action in the Foxies’ second game, a straight-sets loss to Thai guest team EST Cola on Tuesday, while Bonafe was also with them, albeit in street clothes.
Farm Fresh looks to break out of a four-way logjam at 1-1 two days into the PVL Invitational when it takes on an unbeaten Creamline side on Thursday.
