TECHNOLOGICAL Institute of the Philippines coach Achilles Paril refused to get carried away after an upset win over Ateneo, noting several points that show the victory wasn’t a true indicator of either team’s strength.
Paril stressed that Ateneo was missing key players, while the Lady Engineers were led by guest players in the thrilling five-setter at the start of their V-League campaign.
Former Adamson star Mylene Paat led TIP in scoring while fellow guest player Chie Saet came up with 33 of the Lady Engineers’ 34 excellent sets.
Ateneo was without Jhoana Maraguinot and Bea de Leon, while longtime Lady Eagles star Alyssa Valdez is now part of the coaching staff.
“Actually, hindi ako ganoon kasaya, kasi alam naman natin na ‘yung team ng Ateneo, lahat ‘yan bata pa, so hindi din ako ganoon kasaya,” said Paril.
“’Yun talagang capability ng team namin hindi talaga siya nasukat against Ateneo.”
Paril is now urging the Lady Engineers to prove this win was no fluke. Last season, TIP also started on a winning note, beating La Salle Dasmarinas, only to drop their remaining matches.
“Ganito din, isang panalo lang kami last year, first game namin nanalo,” Paril said. “Ang goal lang namin kung nanalo kami ngayon sa susunod manalo uli ng one or two games.”
