IT’S been eight years since Creamline last lost back-to-back games in a PVL tournament.

The Cool Smashers recently absorbed a pair of pool play defeats to Cignal in straight sets and ZUS Coffee in five in the ongoing 2025 PVL on Tour — albeit a preseason tournament and not an actual PVL conference.

But as far as PVL play goes, Creamline’s last two-game preliminary round skid happened twice during the league’s very first conference in 2017.

The Alyssa Valdez-led Creamline lost two in a row to defunct teams Power Smashers in five sets, 23-25, 25-21, 17-25, 25-20, 13-15, and eventual champion Pocari Sweat in four, 25-15, 18-25, 24-26, 19-25, two days apart in the 2017 PVL Reinforced Conference.

One week later, Creamline would lose another five-setter to the Power Smashers, 25-17, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 10-15, before being dealt another five-set defeat by conference runner-up Balipure, 25-20, 19-25, 25-19, 18-25, 7-15.

Creamline ended the double-round prelims with a 4-6 (win-loss) record, fifth among the league’s six founding teams.

It went on to lose the best-of-three semifinals to Balipure before gaining a measure of redemption over the Power Smashers with a two-game series sweep for the bronze medal.

Not a lot of losses for Creamline

In recent memory, Creamline’s last pair of back-to-back defeats came in the 2024 PVL All-Filipino Conference when it lost a four-setter to PLDT in the prelims finale before blowing a five-set contest to sister-team Choco Mucho to open the single-round robin semis.

Most of their two-game skids in the PVL’s pro league era, albeit a rarity, took place in the playoffs.

These include the time when Creamline lost a semis and knockout finals game to Kurashiki Ablaze in the 2023 PVL Invitational Conference, two years after blowing a 1-0 finals series lead to Chery Tiggo in the 2021 PVL Open Conference.
