ANGGE Tabaquero, the outspoken team captain of Cagayan Valley, was simply lost for words after the Lady Rising Suns made history in the Shakey’s V-League on Sunday.
It took a while before the former University of Santo Tomas stalwart could gather her thoughts and reflect on what her team had just accomplished after a five-set win over Smart-Maynilad in Game Two.
“I'm just so happy, we're on cloud nine,” she said after the Lady Rising Suns completed a perfect 16-0 record in Season 10 Open Conference, capped by a 25-16, 19-25, 25-15, 22-25, 15-7 win at The Arena.
Although Tabaquero and the rest of the team had a premature celebration when they thought Dindin Santiago’s hit went out on match point, the Lady Rising Suns were not to be denied of their place in league history.
Fittingly, it was Tabaquero who scored the game-winner.
“Service pa lang, kung sakaling sa akin ibigay 'yung set sabi ko sa sarili ko ayan buong barangay na, pak bongang bongga (tatapusin ko na),” she recalled of the game-winning play.
She stressed harmony and unity helped the Lady Rising Suns achieve the rare feat.
“United kami inside the court, every game we treat it as the last, and today parang wala nang bukas,” Tabaquero said.Get more of the latest sports news & updates on SPIN.ph
