Bagunas, the reigning UAAP Finals Most Valuable Player, unleashed 13 kills to finish with 17 points and also had a great defensive effort with 11 excellent receptions out of 15 attempts in the straight-sets victory.
Besides Bagunas, rookie Angelo Almendres, skipper Francis Saura, and Kim Malabunga delivered 10 points each, while Madz Gampong added seven to help the UAAP champions win their third game in a row to tie idle University of Santo Tomas on top of the standings.
"Mas nakaka-adjust na siguro kami. Marami pa kaming kailangan ayusin, sa totoo lang, pero happy kami kasi nagkakaroon ng experience 'yung mga bata. Nakakapag-gel pa sila,” NU head coach Dante Alinsunurin said.
The Bulldogs dominated the Chiefs in all departments, with a 39-19 differential in attacks, 11-3 disparity in blocks, and 5-2 edge from the service line.
National U eyes its fourth consecutive win in the 1 p.m. on Sunday against a bounce back-seeking University of the Philippines (2-1), which succumbed to San Beda University in five sets earlier.
Nobody scored in double figures for NCAA silver medalist Arellano University with skipper Christian Segovia being the highest scorer with five points as the Chiefs reeled at 10th place after remaining winless in three matches.
Arellano continues to hunt its first win against NCAA rival San Beda University (1-2) also on Sunday at 11 a.m.
