WHEN Creamline saw its 19-game win streak end at PLDT’s hands, team captain Alyssa Valdez didn’t even know about it at the time.
All it was for the Cool Smashers was their first loss of a very long 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference — one that’ll span for roughly six months with five playoff rounds at most.
The 10-time PVL champions were mum as they left the Ynares Center in Antipolo last Saturday less than an hour after the five-set contest ended.
Valdez shared how that Creamline dugout might’ve been somber after defeat, but still, they left the game inspired, and it was evident with a quick three-set win over Galeries Tower this Thursday.

“We never had that conversation in the team kasi probably, we don’t know also that we’re on that track din,” Valdez told SPIN.ph.
“When we heard about it also after that loss, it was something na inspiration din talaga if you have streaks pero mas naging inspiration siya sa’min kasi naputol siya.”
There was no better time than that penultimate prelims match for that defeat to go down to be able to adjust and take charge in time for the playoffs.
“We want to see it (loss) as early as possible. It was given to us at the right time and we’ll take that. Those humps will make us hungry again to work harder and to win more games,” said Valdez.

That stunning result humbled the champs yet poked the bear within them as their five-peat chase reaches its twilight.
“Ibang motivation ‘yung nabigay niya sa’min para mas magtrabaho at mas bumalik pa, mas maging disiplinado pa sa goals namin this conference,” Valdez said.
“Sana talaga makatulong ‘yun para maging extra push this conference lalo na’t mahabang-mahaba ‘yung format.”
