COLLEGE of St. Benilde took advantage of Gretcel Soltones playing a limited role for San Sebastian College, scoring a 25-18, 26-24, 25-11, win on Saturday in the V-League Collegiate Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
Jeanette Panaga scored 18 points and Jannine Navarro had 12 for the Lady Blazers. Panaga also came up with seven of St. Benilde’s 12 blocks.
Melanie Torres and guest player Kym Ramos added six markers apiece, while another guest while Rica Enclona registered eight digs and six excellent receptions for CSB.
The Lady Blazers shares the early lead with Ateneo, which downed University of Santo Tomas, 25-11, 27-25, 19-25, 25-20, in the opener.
San Sebastian star Soltones is still recovering from a right shoulder injury and was sent in to play libero for a few minutes.
But the SSC-R offense lacked the firepower without the NCAA Most Valuable Player, and none from the team finished in double figures.
Nikka Dalisay and Jolina Labiano each had nine markers for San Sebastian.
