    St. Benilde adds to Perpetual woes to gain piece of PVL 4th spot

    COLLEGE of Saint Benilde added to frustrations of the skidding University of Perpetual Help, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, in the men’s division of Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Season 2 Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan City.

    The Blazers banked on their collective effort to dismantle the NCAA champions and rise to joint-fourth place with an improved 2-2 win-loss record tied with FEU, UP and San Beda.

    Vince Abrot scattered 16 kills and three service aces for a game-high 19 points. Rookie Joshua De Sequera delivered 14 hits, while Owen Bacani had an all-around game with 11 points including 32 receptions and seven digs.

    Francis Basilan and Roniey Adviento were als instrumental with 10 and nine markers, respectively. Playmaker Kevin Magsino paced the team with 38 excellent sets on top of four points.

    “Hindi namin tinignan na defending champion ‘yung Perpetual pero everytime na makaharap natin ‘yung mga NCAA schools. Hindi natin titignan ‘yung result hangga’t maaari once na matapos ‘yung game makapagbigay tayo ng statement,” CSB Head Coach Arnold Laniog.

    “Itong tournament na ‘to hindi kami titingin sa result, ang titignan namin ‘yung detalye ng performance namin. Kung manalo it’s because maganda siguro ‘yung performance.”

    After beating the reigning NCAA champion, St. Benilde takes on silver medalist Arellano (0-4) on Saturday at 6 p.m.

    NCAA’s Rookie MVP Joebert Almodiel erupted with 17 points but he could not carry the Altas from reeling to 1-4 record at eighth place. Ronniel Rosales and John Patrick Ramos added 14 and 10 markers, respectively.

    Perpetual Help tries to recover against UP also on Saturday at 11 a.m.
