SOUTHWESTERN University tries to seize the early lead when it takes on Arellano on Thursday in the Shakey's V-League Season 11 First Conference at The Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Cobras came out the winner in a five-set see-saw battle with the St. Louis University Lady Navigators in their opening game and is hoping to score a more comfortable win this time.
But Arellano’s Lady Chiefs are also expected to play tough as they try to come up with a fine debut in the 12-team tournament, and SWU coach Jordan Paca urged his wards to give it their all.
The match starts at 2p.m.
“Arellano matibay na team ’yan kaya sabi ko sa kanila (Cobras) laban lang tayo,” said Paca.
“Ang skill kasi andyan na 'yan, ang tibay ng loob sa court na lang ng rookies ang kailangan. Kasi ang old players may puso na 'yan at galing sa loob ng court,” referring to veteran players Marlyn Llagoso and Neresa Villanueva.
SWU shares the top spot in Group A with Ateneo (1-0).
Arellano will lean on Menchie Tubiera, Mary Jane Ticar, Lexyl Oserio and Angelica Legacion.
Meanwhile, SLU and Adamson hope to bounce back from losses in their openers when the Navigators and Lady Falcons tangle at 4 p.m.
Focus will be again on Krissan Tsuchiya, who finished with 26 points for the Lady Navigators in the match against SWU, while Bhebs Pineda and Pau Soriano is again expected lead the way for the Falcons.
