THE Premier Volleyball League (PVL) has stepped in to prevent a potential talent imbalance following Cignal’sleave of absence.

SPIN.ph obtained a copy of an internal memorandum imposing restrictions on teams planning to sign up players from the recently disbanded squad.

The memo was addressed to the remaining nine members of the PVL, some of whom were reported to be in discussions to acquire players from Cignal.

The directive said a team may acquire a maximum of only two players from Cignal’s roster.

The memo also stated that teams must first submit a written notice to the league before finalizing any agreement or making public announcements involving former Super Spikers players.

The league, one line read, reserves the right to determine which players can move to another team to avoid disrupting the PVL's competitive balance.

The PVL said the move is to “ensure fairness and prevent disproportionate roster consolidation.”

Macau, however, can argue that its poor performance was due to circumstances beyond its control. The team was hubbled by too many injuries, especially in the final stretch when, in some games, it was able to field only eight players.

The board will look into the matter deeply to determine if Macau will be more competitive with a full roster. The PBA is looking at guest teams with the gravitas of the Bay Area Dragons who played here in Season 47 and gave local teams a run for their money.- Reuben Terrado
