HE might be a man of few words but when ZUS Coffee head coach Jerry Yee speaks, his players listen.
The Thunderbelles’ five-set upset over Creamline in Passi City had Yee on his toes for almost the entirety of their 2025 PVL on Tour match on Saturday.

But for a coach who’d rather let his players do the talking in team timeouts, Yee took a shot at lashing out on his players on a few occasions late in the game.
Showing his outspoken side is by no means a regular occurrence for Yee during matches, may it be in the PVL or in the NCAA with College of St. Benilde.
But when his emotions start to show through his words, his sole purpose is to give his players what they need to hear rather than what they want to hear.
“[Tough love] lang naman yun. You [have to] give them the truth, ‘di ba,” said Yee.
“You give them kung anong kailangan nila at wala namang tayong sasabihin na hindi kailangan ng totoo diyan, so they have to learn to win.”
Extra push for ZUS
With an eclectic mix of young guns and veterans, this team has its fair share of shortcomings which require Yee to push his team a tad bit harder.
“Lapses, lapses,” Yee said.
“Bata pa talaga [yung team] eh. Yung middle natin, ‘di nagco-cover sa taas, du’n sa baba nagcocover. Kulang tayo sa aggressiveness. Ganun talaga, service errors, mga crucial moments, may lapses talaga.”
As such, not even a breakthrough win over Creamline will convince Yee just yet that his team is already where he wants them to be.
“Marami pa kaming trabaho. We’re very grateful for the win [against Creamline] pero work pa rin talaga and tomorrow is another day, with another big team to play with,” Yee added.
“Bahala na.”
