Shakey’s V-League donates P200,000 to typhoon relief fund

THE Shakey’s V-League and the organizing Sports Vision raised around P200,000 from the staging of the first-ever Shakey’s V-League All Star Weekend powered by Smart which will be donated to the victims of super typhoon Yolanda.

“We thank all the sponsors and backers of the event and all the V-League fans for raising these funds for the Yolanda victims. In our little way, we’d like to do our share to assist our brothers and sisters severely hit by this recent calamity,” said Sports Vision president Ricky Palou.

The funds will be coursed through the Kapuso Foundation of GMA-7.

The Shakey’s All Star Weekend, sponsored by Shakey's Pizza, Smart Communications, Accel Sportswear, Mikasa Volleyballs, generated P174,610 from gate receipts.

TV panel members Sev Sarmenta, Noel Zarate, Mozzy Ravena, sisters Ivy and Anne Remulla, Noreen Go and Reena Villamor also donated their combined talent fees to the pool while a volleyball, signed by all the stars who played in the All Star Game, was auctioned and sold at P4,000.

The actual funds raised from the two-day event, which included a clinic and volley camp Saturday, was P188,610 with Sports Vision adding P11,390 for a total of P200,000.

The All Star Game will be aired on Sunday (Nov. 24) on GMA News TV All Sports Program from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.

Team Smart turned back Team Shakey’s in five sets to rule the All Star Game, which capped the league’s 10th season.
