THERE’S no questioning Savi Davison’s lethal scoring exploits two years into her PVL career with PLDT.
Now a two-time champion, the 5-foot-10 Fil-Canadian top gun enters her first Reinforced Conference after sitting out last year to mend previous health issues as a newly-crowned league MVP.
Davison became the 15th PVL MVP in the Invitational tournament that capped the High Speed Hitters’ historic run of back-to-back titles.

While resting on her laurels as arguably the fastest-rising league hotshot, Davison now carries a renewed purpose and a target on her back in the next two months of import-laden play.
Her offense is indubitable. The goal for her now is to establish the same fearsome stature when it comes to her defense.
PLDT’s scoring machine churned out 22 points in a 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 opening sweep of Bella Belen-led Capital1 on Monday.
Such a familiar high-scoring number, however, was built on 15 attacks and her PVL career-best seven blocks paired with nine digs.
As she continues to set the bar higher for herself, it didn’t come as a surprise that Davison wasn’t too satisfied with how her attacking game played out.
“I actually felt like my attacking was a little bit off. When I feel that way, I think about what other areas I can contribute in and that's just keeping my mental focus and taking mental notes in the back row, like what can I do, how can I read,” Davison said.
“Serving obviously wasn't great today either, but I got a couple in, so that was great. The blocking, just another mental note. It was more so that the mental effort was there in terms of the other areas aside from attacking.
“I also know Nastia [Bavykina] can completely handle the attacking on her own. so it's a great help to be able to kind of direct my energy somewhere else aside from the attacking part of the volleyball.”

Scarier Savi incoming
To be that go-to player who can practically cover all fronts when called upon is what Davison envisions for her already-scintillating career the rest of the way.
It was what she learned as a child despite being significantly undersized in the North American volleyball scene, and one she’ll put to heart as her Philippine career hits new highs.
“Growing up, I wasn't the tallest kid. My coaches always made sure that if you want to get on the court, you got to be a good server, you got to be a good passer, you got to be a good digger,” Davison said.
“It's always been kind of written in stone in the back of my brain that I can't just be good at one thing. I got to be really good at everything that I can be and it's obviously paid off.
“It's come into fruition a couple of times so I'm glad that I can say that I'm a pretty good all-around player, which I'd like to be.”
