SAVI Davison never felt the need to prove her Filipino lineage to anyone following her run to back-to-back PVL titles with PLDT.

Just like Fil-Americans Brooke Van Sickle and MJ Phillips after winning their first PVL titles with Petro Gazz four months ago, Davison admitted paying no heed to questions on his citizenship in a candid post-finals chat with SPIN.ph.

“I’m as Filipino as it gets, I mean half,” said the newly-crowned PVL MVP emphatically.

“I don’t think that I have to prove much to the fans because then, they aren’t fans. The people that support us, support us and support me. The more I live here, the more I’m in touch with my Filipino roots,” she said.

“I’m just glad to have that in myself. It’s more important to know where I come from rather than to show where I come from.”

One thing Savi will always cherish about her mother was how she was never forced to acknowledge her Filipino roots even if she spent most of her early years in Toronto, Canada.

But through her mother, her grandparents and in the few years she’s so far spent again in the Philippines, Davison learned to love her heritage and embrace who she really is to her core, regardless of what others say.

“She didn’t speak much about us being Filipinos as a kid. She just took me around with my lola and my lolo. It wasn’t so much like ‘Oh, you’re Filipino, you have to learn this stuff,’” Davison said.

“I’m just glad that she raised me around the people that matter. A lot of people that matter come from here so I’m just glad that I grew up around the culture.

“I just learned more when I came her but it was never new.”
