SAN Beda squeaked past Arellano University, 25-23, 22-25, 25-23, 25-16, on Wednesday for its second straight win in the Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the Arena in San Juan City.
Riding the crest of their five-set victory over UP Maroons last week, the Red Spikers managed to survive 28 errors and the tight encounter in the first three sets before catching fire in the fourth set to dispatch the Chiefs.
Jomaru Amagan stood out in San Beda’s collective effort with 20 points off 14 attacks, five service aces and a block on top of his great defensive effort with 23 excellent receptions and 10 digs.
Amagan got ample support from Jeffrey Losa delivering 14 points as well as skipper Angelo Torres and Mark Decano, who added 13 markers each.
San Beda rose to fifth place, tying FEU, which also won its second in a row earlier, with identical 2-2 win-loss records.
The Red Spikers take on another winless squad, the De La Salle Green Spikers (0-4) next on Sunday at 9 a.m.
Demmy Lapuz scored 17 and Christian Dela Paz added 16 points, skipper Christian Segovia had 11 points and Jesrael Liberato had 10 hits for Arellano. The NCAA silver medalists are in the bottom, tied with La Salle, as it lost its fourth match in a row.
