PACIFICTOWN-Army dominated Chef’s Classics, 25-11, 25-23, 25-17, to start the second round on a high note in the PVL Open Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.

With Jovelyn Gonzaga seeing action for the Philippine national women’s team in a tournament in Thailand, Army turned to Royse Tubino, Jem Gutierrez and Ging Balse-Pabayo as it completed the win in one hour and 14 minutes.

Wing spikers Tubino and Gutierrez led the charge with 15 points apiece, while Pabayo delivered 10 markers as Pacifictown-Army improved its win-loss record to 5-4.

Assistant coach Rico De Guzman, who taking over from Kungfu Reyes who is also with the Philippine women’s team, was glad to see the Lady Troopers bounce back after a sluggish performance in the three-set defeat to Air Force.

“Kailangan naming makabawi doon sa nangyari sa Air Force,” said De Guzman. “Like depensa, yun ang pinakaginagawa namin ngayon sa training. Doon ko sila dini-develop na maging positive, may leadership at teamwork doon sa loob ng court.”

The team will still be without Gonzaga and Reyes for Saturday’s match against BaliPure.

Nieza Viray led Chef’s Classics with 15 points, providing half of the team’s 30 attacks as they got outmuscled by Army which had 45 spikes.

The Lady Red Spikers remained winless in nine matches.
