ROSELYN Rosier is relishing her role in the UP Lady Maroons’ impressive run in the Premier Volleyball League.
The 5-foot-7 open spiker has made an immediate impact with the Lady Maroons, and promises to do even better in the women’s finals against Far Eastern University in the Collegiate Conference beginning on Sunday at the Arena in San Juan.
“Siyempre it’s overwhelming but at the same time, we’re just very happy. Everyone, all of us, really fought for this and we knew we just trusted each other and believe in ourselves na we can do it,” Rosier said.
“That’s why very satisfying and knowing that we’re the first ones to do this it’s like a great step for us, a big step for us.”
Rosier came up huge in the semifinals against top seed Adamson University, averaging 9.33 points in three matches.
“It’s a very big opportunity for me, all I have to do is show coach and everyone that any little contributing I give to the team will help like one of the biggest things I could do,” the 19-year-old said. “Kahit sumigaw lang ako, kahit makareceive lang ako, kahit makaserve lang ako.”
“I think that’s also one of the biggest things I stopped thinking of how to become better for myself, I started thinking na I should be become better for the team kahit anong little contribution that’s all I’ve been thinking about,” she added.
“I’m looking forward to doing better, doing more for the team and doing more plays basta we’re gonna surprise everyone and I think we’re gonna surprise each other too,” she said.
UP coach Godfrey Okumu is impressed with how Rosier has responded to heavier minutes and the bigger task in the semifinals.
“She’s a fighter like every other player you have ups and downs but for the last few games you’ve seen her going up and I think there’s more to come for her and I’m very happy with that performance and also the team overall with Rosie yes, she’s doing a good job she will go places in time,” Okumu said.
