UNIVERSITY of Santo Tomas forced a semis decider against Ateneo with a 24-26, 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 victory in the PVL Collegiate Conference on Wednesday at the Arena in San Juan.
Rookies Janna Torres and Imee Hernandez showed the way along with sisters Eya and EJ Laure as UST extended the series to a third match on Sunday.
Torres scored 14 and Hernandez added 12, combining for 20 of UST’s 48 kills.
Eya had 10 points and made 14 digs and four excellent receptions, while EJ added eight markers and 13 digs.
“Kasi last time, kami 'yung wala sa laro e, physically present kami pero distracted lahat kami. Mentally, lahat ng instruction, actually kahit simpleng instruction lang hindi nila masunod,” said UST coach KungFu Reyes. “This time, at least nahimasmasan sila noong training nila ng nakaraan.”
Ateneo committed 38 errors, with five of UST’s last 10 points coming off the Lady Eagles’ miscues.
Vanie Gandler led the Lady Eagles with 15 points and 16 digs. Faith Nisperos had 12 points, while Jules Samonte and Erika Raagas added 11 markers each.
Dani Ravena had 22 digs and 10 excellent receptions for Ateneo.
