POCARI Sweat coach Rommel Abella offered no excuses as their six-game winning run was put to an end by Air Force in the Shakey’s V-League Season 13 Open Conference on Monday.

After a first set win, the Lady Warriors crashed back to earth and bowed to the Jet Spikers, 25-20, 17-25, 22-25, 15-25, at the PhilSports Arena.

For Abella, everything that the team displayed in their win streak went missing against Air Force.

“Intensity, intensity noong mga players wala eh. Very lackluster ‘yung performance namin ngayon. ‘Yung galaw namin very weak walang ano, kung baga sa lay man’s term, walang gigil,” said Abella, whose wards pulled off an epic comeback against Bali Pure, 21-25, 6-25, 26-24, 27-25, 19-17, on Saturday.

Winning the match against Air Force was crucial for Abella, not for the perfect eliminations record, but to gain momentum coming into the best-of-three semifinals series, which starts on Wednesday.

“Ang akin naman kasi, sinabi ko sa kanila, ‘yung 7-0 record wala talaga siyang basehan eh. Kasi hindi siya ganoon ka-important kasi wala naman twice-to-beat ‘yung magiging No. 1 or No. 2,” he said.

“And one more, sinabi ko lang sa mga players ko na it’s not about the record. Ang gusto namin kasi manalo para going into the semis is meron kaming momentum,” Abella added. “But I guess ‘yun nga nawalan sila ng focus and very lackluster ang game namin.”

Abella also dismissed the thought that they were exhausted after having only one day to rest following their grueling match against Bali Pure.

“Not really kasi nagte-training kami araw-araw eh. ‘Yung pagod, hindi na dapat siya factor sa ganitong stage na ng tournament eh,” he said. “So I guess it’s not about ‘yung pagod. It’s just that we came out flat and hindi namin na-overcome ‘yun.”
